The industrial age arrived in Cowley, now part of Oxford, with the opening of the Morris Motors complex, in 1912. The famous company was founded by William Morris, who designed his first car - the Bull Nose Morris - in Oxford.

Morris was later created Lord Nuffield, after the Oxfordshire village where he had settled. He is also famous as the man who gave away as much money as he made, at least £30 million in his lifetime.

Turl Street Kitchen

Turl Street Kitchen is a social enterprise. All profit we generate goes to support the work of the Oxford Hub, our sister charity based upstairs in 16-17 Turl Street.

We do our best to create a genuinely warm environment which serves healthy, fresh, seasonal, affordable food, and is embedded within the community in various ways. We make a big effort to be sustainable and respectful in a number of areas (and are 3 star SRA rated!), primarily:

Sourcing: where does our food come from?

Waste: how do we dispose of our food and our waste materials?

Procurement: where are our other items coming from? How much of our items are reclaimed and what can we do to close our loops?

Community: how does what we do benefit the community which we are a part of? That means all of us working together and collaborating to make this venue a living, breathing space which really is good food doing good.

Victoria Arms

Victoria Arms

add to fav
The Victoria Arms sits on the banks of The Cherwell River, just a short way from the dreaming spires of Oxford city centre. With large sweeping gardens down to the river we are a perfect spot in the summer, whether you walk, drive or come by river on a punt.

Winter time brings refreshing walks along the river, and then back to our log fires, warm drinks and home cooked food. Situated in one of the oldest villages around Oxford this pub was once named The Ferry Inn, after the foot passenger punt ferry that ran until the 1960's, as it was the only way from this side of the river over into North Oxford.

We pride ourselves on a perfect pint and a perfect view, summer or winter.

We believe the British pub has a fundamental role in its community to serve as a place for socialising, relaxing and enjoying quality products. A mix of customers are always welcome at the "Vicky arms", from families, tourists and locals to puntsman, ramblers and man's best friend.

William Everard brewed the first pint of Everards ale in 1849, and stated “No effort shall be found wanting in the production and supply of genuine ale of first rate quality”.

Today, over 165 years later, Everards Brewery is very much a family run company with values that echo that of William Everard – We aim to provide first class quality goods and services to our customers.

We firmly believe in combining innovation and modern technology with the best of traditional values and practices throughout the business, whether it’s customer service, brewing, or in our pubs. “Tradition with ambition” as Chairman Richard Everard says.

Looking towards the future, Everards Brewery will stay firmly in the hands of the Everard family. We have long term plans to expand our pub estate and to increase the popularity of our ales,“concentrating,” to quote Richard Everard “on developing the business for the next generation.”
